Soon after Effingham had celebrated the Silver Jubilee in 1935 of King George V, the latter died and his child Edward briefly became King until abdicating. Edward’s brother Albert then became King, to be known as George VI, and was crowned on 12 May 1937. This article describes Effingham’s celebrations of this event which in some respects mirrored that in 1935 but had significant differences as well. Some local records and images are presented to illustrate the text.
