During the decade after the first world war there were many changes, and especially upheavals, in Britain’s social, political and economic life. Effingham, like everywhere else, would have felt the impact of these, although a century later it is not easy to discern this from surviving sources. In this article we cast the net wide in presenting the diverse happenings that would have engaged public attention in our village during the Twenties.
