Effingham’s Village Day in 1995 took place on Sunday June 11th. The weather was overcast. The event was officially opened by Effingham resident Ray Davies, rhythm guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for the famous band, The Kinks.
Planning
The day was planned and organized by the Village Day Committee under the Chairmanship of Gill Walker. We have the Minutes of three of their meetings about this event, held in March 1995, May 1995 and (looking back on the event) late June.
The Programme shows that the event officially opened at 12.30pm and that there was intended to be a fly-past by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at about 2.35pm. However, the June Minutes suggest that the fly-past may not have taken place.
