Researched and written by Derek Ruffles, Christopher John Hogger and Richard Brackenbury
This article presents and discusses some images, drawn mostly from postcards, of Bookham High Street. The original postcards had been collected over many years by the late Don Clarke of West Horsley and ranged over many villages and parishes. We hope to write in due course articles about other subsets of the collection. The images presented here span more than a century. In order to clarify which buildings were in the High Street and how they have been numbered, the discussion is based very much upon the view presented in the 1912-14 Ordnance Survey 25″ map.
The supplementary article below provides additional insights into the Brackenbury business in Bookham High Street and presents some interesting new images. It also corrects a detail in the primary article concerning the lean-to at the side of the main building.
