Robert William (‘Pop’) Scott grew up in King’s Lynn and became a skilled painter and carpenter. As a young man he moved to the south-east and was soon living and working in Effingham. He was the founder of the building and decorating company R W Scott & Son whose premises were located on the Guildford Road at its intersection with Norwood Road. He was also a serious hobbyist in woodworking, creating many beautiful objects still treasured in the village and elsewhere today.
