LIVES – PAULING FAMILY
Researched and written by various authors.
The Pauling family lived in Effingham for a relatively brief period, barely thirty years from the late 1890s to the late 1920s. Their impact, however, was very substantial, flowing from the great wealth and renown of the head of the Effingham family, the railway contractor George Craig Saunders Pauling. His means, powers and influence enabled him to purchase many local properties, including The Lodge, besides promoting and resourcing many local activities and organisations.
ELHG is in the fortunate position of having come into the possession of some large collections of Pauling family memorabilia through the generosity of several donors. Our ambition is to research and document this material so that it can be made accessible to the wider community. There is so much of it, and spanning so many different aspects, that we shall present it as a set of individual studies, accessed via the buttons below.
