The Coronation of King George V in 1911 marked the end of the Edwardian era, ushering in a new – and more troubled – phase in the life of the nation; within a few years Britain would be plunged into a terrible war followed by years of social strife and economic depression. The celebrations of the 1911 Coronation, however, were a happy affair and in this article we show how that was borne out in our village and in neighbouring areas.
