In the second half of the 1950s two young sisters-in-law living in London began singing together and entering local talent contests. Their abilities were quickly recognised and they began performing as The Avon Sisters. When joined by a young male singer the trio became The Avons and were soon established as one of the nation’s most accomplished popular vocal music groups. During the early 1960s they lived in Effingham. Their music careers continued for many decades.
