LIVES – EMILY MADGE

Researched and written by Penny Easun and Christopher John Hogger.

Emily Madge was born in Stoke D’Abernon in 1886 but by her mid-twenties she was living with her parents in Effingham. She had not married, as the man she had intended to marry had been killed in the First World War. She remained single for the rest of her life. In Effingham she played a strong role in the Effingham Women’s Institute, serving as its Treasurer for at least fifteen years. She was the great-aunt of Penny Easun, provider of some unique photographs of the Madge family.
