LIVES – THE MISSES FARIS

Researched and written by Christopher John Hogger.

The Misses Faris were two unmarried sisters Elizabeth Susan and Margaret Young who in the 1840s were brought as children to Effingham by their widowed mother. Their father, a soldier, had died while serving in India – their birthplace –when they were small children. This article describes their lives in Effingham and, in particular, their long years of devotion to the school and to St Lawrence Church, in whose churchyard they now lie together.
